Greetings from San Antonio Huista, Guatemala!
We are so excited and blessed to be here and to be able to share our Day 1 and 2 experiences with you…
Our flight went smoothly and wonderfully. No member of our team sat alone and the whole ride solely consisted of jokes, laughs, and amazing biscotti. We spent the night of Day 1 in a beautiful hotel in Guatemala City, Guatemala in which we felt truly honored to stay. We walked to a beautiful restaurant for dinner and were pleasantly surprised to be dining at the delicious Chili’s. We, of course, participated in their Saturday night karaoke with a group rendition of “Hips Don’t Lie” by the ever-so-talented Shakira. We came home to warm beds and loaded up on sleep for the long day ahead of us.
We were up bright and early the next morning for a 12-hour drive northward to Huehuetenango (including eating stops; nevertheless, it was still about 12 hours). We stopped twice during the day, for breakfast and lunch, and saw the country’s shift from the affluent Guatemala City to the rural villages and communities like Huehuetenango. We saw children working on construction sites and holding many pounds of wood on their backs to bring home. We saw smiling faces and dirt-crusted toes. We saw the love and joys of this country as well as the miseries and woes. With this at the start of our trip, we are all so incredibly eager to serve this community and be vessels of God’s love to the people we will and have encountered.
Please keep us in your prayers that we may leave our earthly worries at the feet of God and that we can accept and show God’s love in every and any way to the children and families of this beautiful community.
Many thanks,
Iva and Catt
