How Does a Church Become Part of Your Life Story?

For Sheila, Christ Journey Church is not just a place she attended. It is where her story began to take shape.

She first walked through the doors at just five years old. What followed were twenty-five years filled with moments that would shape who she is today. What started as a place to go each week quickly became a second home, not only for Sheila, but for her entire family and for so many others who shared life within those walls.

Some of her earliest memories are filled with joy and laughter. Kids Camp and Camp University brought shaving cream fights and walls of affirmation. Sunday school with Joe Oliver meant learning Scripture through song. There were Christmas pageants and moments spent singing alongside her dad, El Grangeiro. Walking through it all with her sisters, Shirle and Stephanie, made each memory even more meaningful.

The rhythm of church life became part of her everyday world. Wednesday nights meant dinner in the fellowship hall. Thursdays were full of energy at youth group. Sundays brought worship and reflection. While the activities were special, it was the people and the sense of community that left the deepest impact.

Some of the most meaningful moments were the simplest ones. Walking from Coral Gables Senior High to church. Spending time with friends. Getting ready for choir with Chuck Bridwell and David Faust. These everyday experiences became lifelong memories.

But church was not just a place to attend. It was a place to grow.

Through Vacation Bible School, camps, and mission trips, Sheila was given opportunities to create, serve, and lead. She learned hands-on skills like photography, video, editing, audio, lighting, and backstage production. More importantly, she learned responsibility, teamwork, and what it means to be part of something bigger than herself.

She was surrounded by leaders and mentors who invested deeply in her life. Pastor Dan Yeary, Pastor Bill White, Jon Scott, and countless volunteers created space for her to learn, contribute, and step into leadership.

Now, as she reflects on her journey, Sheila recognizes the lasting impact of those years. The foundation of faith and community she experienced is something she hopes to pass on to her daughter, guiding her as she grows into a life marked by service, faith, and love.

As Christ Journey Church celebrates 100 years, stories like Sheila’s remind us what that milestone truly represents. It is not just about time. It is about lives transformed, generations shaped, and a legacy of faith that continues to grow.

Sheila is one of those stories. And she is deeply grateful.

Here is to 100 years of faith, community, and impact, and to the generations still to come. ✨
